My first mission trip to the Navajo Nation

I am a super excited to share with you my journey to the Navajo Nation. But first let me share my fears and worries about the trip. I have never been to another Native American reservation to share my testimony or encourage other Native American women in their walks.  I thought to myself, would they accept me? Would they treat me differently because I am from another tribe? As you can imagine those fears were unnecessary as the women, the church and the Navajo people made me feel at home.

About the trip, the Lord used four women, Linda, Bonnie, Georgia and I who were willing and obedient to share the truth of God’s word.  Linda, the leader, is the Executive Director of Gaits to Heaven here is a link to her website if you would like more information about her and her ministry she leads  http://www.acswebnetworks.com/gaits.  Bonnie is the assistant to Linda and they do an amazing job together. Georgia is a sweet sister that I met through volunteering with Authentic Intimacy she has such a servants heart and was a blessing also to the team.  Last but not least there was me, the unsure of life, Lakota woman going to the Navajo Nation on a prayer to be used by the Lord.

We arrived to a small town in the middle of the reservation called Navajo Gospel Mission located in Hard Rock, AZ.  This place used to be a Christian school for the local residents. We got in late that night and settled down right away to rest for church in the morning. We went to church the next morning and I was so encouraged with the singing and the preaching. The Pastor’s wife sang in English and Navajo. The Pastor also preached in English and Navajo. I was able to share my testimony with the church which was apart of our Women’s Conference that afternoon called Victory over the Past lead by Linda. The conference went great and the team was asked to go back again in 2017.  The next few days we hosted a Family Day camp with horses lead by Pastor Mike Hudson of First Baptist Church of Tuba City. We learned about training a horse and the Pastor did a great job at teaching us how training a horse is similar to our own spiritual walks with the Lord. One of the ladies from the conference came to the Family Day Camp and stayed after to talk about Jesus. We lead her to Christ and we were able to encourage her in her new faith with the Lord. In that moment I knew the Lord would move heaven and earth for one person to know Him. It was a privilege and honor to pray with her.

Sharing my testimony at Navajo Gospel Missions June 2016

We left that Wednesday and made it to First Baptist Tuba City which is where we were hosting the second Women’s Conference. That night at church I was able to share my testimony with the people.  The next day we had a little down time so we went to the Grand Canyon a place I have never been before. I was amazed and in awe of the great wonders the Lord has created. I sat on a rock and spent some time praying and healing from past hurts and grief of my own. It was refreshing and very much needed for my own heart and ministry.  The next day we spent time at the Navajo flee market where I was able to share my testimony with some of the vendors and pray for a man who needed prayer. That Saturday was the Women’s Conference where  I was able to share my testimony in depth and also encourage the ladies to invest in discipleship with one another. I am a huge advocate of discipleship so every chance I get I try to share the importance of multiplying ourselves for the kingdom of God and His glory.  The ladies at the conference were also able to share some of their stories. Some of them made me cry and some made me laugh.  I was able to see that every woman there was vulnerable and that we all had one thing in common the need to be loved by our Savior Jesus. I was blessed by the stories and enjoyed hearing the hearts of the women.

Sharing my testimony and encouraging the ladies.

After the conference I was able to reflect on the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. I was encouraged by the many Navajo’s who professed faith in Jesus Christ. I was able to share with the church on Sunday how much it meant to me to see so many believers in the church on the reservation and how I desire to see my own tribe fill the pews of bible believing churches.  The women I met there are near to my heart and I pray that they will know that their hospitality and love for Jesus was just what I needed to continue to share Christ with others. We were asked to come back in 2017.

One of the most important thoughts I had while I was on this trip was my desire to bring my children with me on the next trip.  I am praying that next year I can drive with my family to the Navajo Nation on another mission trip so my boys can experience the joy I felt sharing the love of Jesus.  My boys have traveled with me numerous times to my own reservation for mission work and I believe I will continue to take them with me as the Lord opens doors for me to raise the funds. I am already thinking of ways to raise funds and save so my family can go together. Please keep us lifted in prayer for the Lord to open doors.

To the many donors who believe in me and the call the Lord has planted in my heart words can not adequately express my gratitude for your gift to this mission trip. You have blessed me and my family greatly. Because of you I was able to share my story and pray with a woman  who made Jesus her Savior. I do not take your giving lightly and I am thankful for every donation made on my behalf. I pray that all the glory be given to Jesus the one who deserves every praise.

My next mission trip will be from July 26th to August 1st to my own people the Lakota Sioux.  I will also be doing one more trip in the fall to my own tribe the Oglala Lakota Sioux. I will be sure to keep everyone updated.

Please feel free to email me or call me with encouragement. I would greatly appreciate it.

Roman 10:15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
